To qualify for free federal e-filing through 1040.net, taxpayers must meet specific income and filing criteria under the platform’s Basic Software offering.

Eligibility for 1040.net’s Free Federal Edition includes all of the following:

• Filing Status: Single or Married Filing Jointly
• Income Threshold: Less than $100,000 in wages
• Income Type: W-2 income only
• Deductions and Credits: Limited deductions and credits

Taxpayers with more complex tax situations—such as income exceeding $100,000, 1099 income, itemized deductions, or additional tax schedules—may be automatically upgraded to a paid filing option.
